The University of Toronto has been around since 1827 and is now the largest university in the country with more than 70,000 current students attending. There are more than six hundred undergraduate programs, and 168 graduate degrees to choose from. There are also several thousand international students who choose the University of Toronto as their post-secondary educational institution each year. The faculty is made up of around 2200 professionals and the University of Toronto is the 15th largest employer in the city.
The University is one of the most recognized scientific research facilities in the world and is responsible for the development for the first electronic pacemaker, single-lung transplant, and developed the chemical laser, among many other things. Notable faculty throughout the years have included Sir Frederick Banting, author Robertson Davies, and engineering pioneer Ursula Franklin.
